Transposable elements and xenobiotic resistance

چکیده

Transposable elements or TEs are well known drivers of adaptive change in plants and animals but their role insecticide resistance remains poorly documented. This review examines the potential transposons identifies key areas where our understanding unclear. Despite well-known model systems such as upregulation Drosophila Cyp6g1 , many putative examples lack functional validation. The types transposon-associated changes that could lead to reviewed, including up-regulation, message stability, loss function alternative splicing. Where mechanisms appear absent from literature drawn other biology. Finally, ways suggested which transgenic expression be used validate biological significance TE insertion. In absence studies association genes therefore remain correlations.

A Transposable Element Insertion Confers Xenobiotic Resistance in Drosophila

The increase in availability of whole genome sequences makes it possible to search for evidence of adaptation at an unprecedented scale. Despite recent progress, our understanding of the adaptive process is still very limited due to the difficulties in linking adaptive mutations to their phenotypic effects. In this study, we integrated different levels of biological information to pinpoint the ...

Transposable genetic elements.

N atural selection, as Darwin rec ognized more than a centu ry ago, favors individuals and populations that acquire traits con ducive to survival and reproduction. The generation of biological variation, which gives rise to new and potentially advantageous combinations of genetic traits, is therefore a central requirement for the successful evolution of species in diverse and changing enviro...

Transposable elements and circular DNAs

Circular DNAs are extra-chromosomal fragments that become circularized by genomic recombination events. We have recently shown that yeast LTR elements generate circular DNAs through recombination events between their flanking long terminal repeats (LTRs). Similarly, circular DNAs can be generated by recombination between LTRs residing at different genomic loci, in which case the circular DNA wi...

Transposable elements in Drosophila

Transposable elements (TEs) are mobile genetic elements that can mobilize within host genomes. As TEs comprise more than 40% of the human genome and are linked to numerous diseases, understanding their mechanisms of mobilization and regulation is important. Drosophila melanogaster is an ideal model organism for the study of eukaryotic TEs as its genome contains a diverse array of active TEs. TE...

Evolutionary tinkering with transposable elements.

I t was almost 30 years ago when François Jacob declared that evolutionary innovation (the emergence of novel form and function over time) occurred primarily via a process of ‘‘tinkering’’ (1). By tinkering, Jacob essentially meant the creation of novelty through random combinations of preexisting forms. Two fundamental and countervailing notions are implicit in this view of evolution: optimali...
